Holy Name Society of St. Alphonsus

The Holy Name Society (HNS) is a confraternity whose mission is to promote devotion and reverence to the Holy name of God and Jesus. The St. Alphonsus HNS chapter was chartered in 1914; we are also the only HNS chartered in the Diocese of Davenport. We focus on promoting the Catholic faith, supporting Catholic education, and service to our parish.

Birdies for Charity

St. Alphonsus has participated in the annual Birdies for Charity campaign for over 20 years. In 1997, our first year, we raised $1,300. In recent years we average $10,000! Birdies for Charity is the only fund raising effort where the participating organizations receive 100% of the monies pledged to them since John Deere covers all of the administrative costs of the program. In fact, we receive an additional bonuses between 5-10% based on profits from the John Deere Classic. Each participating donor (that's you) is eligible to win any of the great prizes sponsored by John Deere and receive tickets to the John Deere Classic. Holy Name & The Fish Fries

The fish fries are somewhat of a phenomena. Over the past 35 years they have grown into one of the most prominent community events in the area. People throughout the Quad Cities attend them faithfully. The fish fries represent a parish-wide effort, while sponsored by the Holy Name Society, they really involve the collective efforts of HNS, Altar & Rosary, and most recently, the Knights of Columbus. They also serve as an outreach to the entire West End community, in that many of the workers - probably a third - are not parishioners or even Catholic, but they show up every year to help out. There is a sense of camaraderie and family among the workers that's hard to describe.
